TIMUN 2021 THEME

A World Without Borders

For a world that exists with borders, it can be seen in many different ways. For humans, it may mean a community/society that exists at the edges, or in the hidden economy, and usually lack social power. They are not easily accepted by the social norms, hence the ‘border’ acting as a barrier among people. This can lead to vulnerability and greater exposure to danger for these groups of people, so our aim is to break down that ‘border’ for us to co-exist peacefully, and promote equality. However, this can raise questions about the consequences of having no borders or restriction; are we willing to pay the price for the complete freedom of mankind? What will happen to the law and security of a country?

Looking at nature's perspective, our world is on the final borders as the environment continues to be wrecked and natural resources getting more scarce. In addition, the rampant use of technology is causing the life of earth to be shortened. Humans are selfishly indulged in their own lives, and are not aware of the surroundings and the approaching danger. This can also lead to a greater scale economic issues such as poverty, as well as numerous health impacts to all living species. How could we prevent them?

Some borders are formed naturally - by oceans, seas and mountains. However, most are man-made. They are essentially imaginary lines, either agreed or imposed, with the purpose of protection or segregation. Such a large amount of money and resources are spent defending these arbitrary constructs, and millions of lives have been lost, through wars and conflicts. This theme can be an opportunity for all delegates to explore various borders we face in our lives, and their significance.
